Conditions on Lasswade Road were pretty terrible for driving, Lothian Buses were diverting to other roads on Wednesday afternoon and the continued snow has been making the situation progressively worse. There is video from a van driver's dashcam showing a Lothian double deck bus swerving and sliding to avoid a car on Frogston Brae close to the entrance for Mortonhall Camp site, so, for the sake of safety, we would urge our supporters to take care and not venture out unless absolutely necessary.
We are sorry to say that the Hub will be closed on Thursday 1st March and as a result the meeting to form a regional Yes Group has been cancelled. We will reschedule this as soon as we can after we reopen.

Due to to extreme weather conditions we are sorry to say that we have had to cancel tonight's event with Colin Fox. Conditions in Edinburgh are appalling with the snow causing Lothian Buses to divert the 31 bus away from Lasswade Road. Whilst we are disappointed to have to cancel we care about the safety of our supporters.
The Hub will remain closed on Thursday, 1st March when we will review the situation with the weather. We apologise for any inconvenience this might cause. Colin Fox, Scottish will be making a welcome return to the Hub to talk about actions we can take to win at the next Scottish Independence referendum. Colin was a member of the board of Yes Scotland at the last referendum so should be well placed to give valuable insight into areas of the campaign that could have been handled better. Places at the Hub are limited so please book by emailing [email protected] or telephoning 07837677307 If you fancy getting out and about to improve your fitness or just to socialise why not join the Hub's Walking Group on Friday mornings.
The walks are not too strenuous and at a pace that allows a good deal of talking, usually ending up at a cafe for a well earned cuppa. Previous routes have been "Dr Guthrie's to Dr Guthrie's" with refreshments at the Faith Mission, and along Blackford Glen and the Hermitage of Braid to enjoy a nice break at the cafe in the former gatehouse. The next walk will be setting off from the Hub at 11am and heading toward Stanedykehead through the Braids to a cafe on Comiston Road. All welcome to join. The Hub is pleased to announce that Ash Denham MSP will be speaking on Friday 23rd February. After Kenny MacAskill announced he would not be standing for re-election at the 2016 Holyrood election, Ash was selected to stand for the SNP in Edinburgh Eastern, winning the seat with a substantial majority. Since being elected to the Scottish Parliament she has been appointed to the Health and Sport Committee, of which she is Deputy Convener, and the Finance and Constitution Committee. She is also the Co-Convener for the Cross-Party Groups for Human Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation. Come along to hear Ash speaking about her work at Holyrood with an opportunity to ask questions. Spaces are limited so contact the Hub to book your place. Friday 16th February saw Craig Dalzell deliver a rebuttal to the annual GERS figures. Craig who is attached to Common Weal has researched not only the figures but the methodology. For those who wish how to understand the figures go to Common Weal web site and it is well explained. Craig also has his own site at The Common Green. The evening was well attended and questions were well put and well answered. A very good night was had by all.
One of the great successes of the Independence Referendum was the huge level of grassroots activism. Sadly, since 2014, some of this momentum has fallen by the wayside. However, with the ongoing fiasco that is Brexit, many people are again thinking about the way they want the country to be run. This is turn is fueling a renewed independence debate.
In the spirit of the original campaign the Hub is facilitating the foundation of a number of local community groups. The first to meet will be the new Gracemount Yes group who will be meeting at 2pm on Sunday 11th February. The following Sunday (18th February) there will be a meeting for the Southhouse area. If you live in these areas please come along and help set up the groups and shape the nature of the campaign at a local level. A new Scottish History course on the Jacobites will be running on Tuesdays at the Hub until the end of March. Run by the ever popular Stuart McHardy, the sessions will be a refreshing look at an important period in our national story.
Sessions are £10/£5 unwaged. We are pleased to announce that Paul Kavanagh and Wee Ginger Dug will be at the Hub on Friday, 9th February. Paul has interesting views on the directions groups within the Yes movement can (and perhaps should) be working on a community. He hosted the Dunblane conference of regional groups in December and is tirelessly promoting to role of grassroots activism in winning over 'soft' No voters to the independence cause. Come along to join in the conversation about the future directions of the Yes movement, and meet the most famous Wee Ginger Dug in Scotland. Tickets £5 available from the Hub. UPDATE Thursday evening: There are only 6 tickets left. February 3rd: The eighth issue of "Saor Alba", our monthly newsletter, is out today. This is the place to get your Yes news, views and information in our local Yes community. You can get it here.
